The Sunday Salon

It's 6am here on the east coast. The sun is just starting to pinken everything. Such a beautiful time of the day!

I'm glad I finished this book. It's the continuation of her earlier book Crank and the main charcter, Kristina, is still as obnoxious as ever. I wanted to slap her. She has a decent family and a cute little baby boy but what does she do? Gets messed up with drugs so bad that she can barely function.

At the end of the book, the author, Ellen Hopkins, says that the novel is based on her own daughter's struggles with drugs. There is no happy ending and I'm glad to see that many teenagers in my school are reading these books.

Like the first one, this one, too, is written in poetry form with each poem a different shape. This makes for a quick read. Thank God! It was just so depressing.

I like to read books in poetry. Although depressing, it sounds like a good read.

Does not sound like my kind of book! I don;t like bleak, well only a certain kind of bleak.

Twilight is amazing read it. I haven't met a person who didn't love it. Book 2&3 divide people but I'm dying to find out what happens in Breaking Dawn.

I'm not big on poetry, though I do take an occasional spurt of it. It's great that there are is such a variety of styles and genres that we can all read what we really love.

I enjoyed Crank but I did not realize there was a second part out - I'll have to give it a read.

Sadly the school library I volunteer at did not approve Crank for purchase (due to the drug use) I think it would be a fabulous book to use for group discussions during the Drug Awareness lessons.

Crank has been the topic of discussion in one of my online book groups lately. It's evidently very popular. I haven't read too many books in free verse format, but the one I read this past winter I really enjoyed.

Wow. I don't thin kI have read a whole book in poetry form. I don't think I would want to read a book that is depressing right now

I haven't read CRANK. She also has another book, I think, called IMPULSE. I want to read that one.

Hmmm, not sure but what the poetry aspect would keep me sidetracked on this one. But such a serious topic. I just read 3 aces, which, while ostensibly romantic suspense, also tackles the subject of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, which the hero suffers from. IT's worth a read.
