We finally have a sunny Sunday! Of course, it's only 44 degrees but, hopefully, it will warm up by this afternoon and I can pedal to the beach on my new red bike. My old one got stolen during the week!

This is a nonfiction book written by Michael Perry about his life as an EMT and firefighter in rural Wisconsin. It is full of quirky characters and the joys and sorrows of life.

I love his writing style. He mentions all the little, unimportant details that turn out to be the most meaningful.

I'll admit it, there were tears in my eyes at the end.

Happy Memorial Day to those who celebrate it and happy reading to everyone!

I have never heard of this book, but you have me very curious now! Yesterday my husband mentioned there was a fire truck outside our house, and so I scrambled to the window to see what was going on. Evidently a man had collapsed on the sidewalk in front of our neighbor's house. I don't know what was wrong with the man; I only hope he'll be okay. They did get him to stand up and walk over the stretcher, so I imagine it couldn't have been awfully bad, you know? Anyhow, it got me thinking about what a day must be like for an EMT or firefighter. What a coincidence then to find you talking about just such a book on your blog today. :-)

Enjoy the sunshine today and have a great week, Linda!

Glad you enjoyed your book. I've not heard of it before. Sorry someone stole your bike. It's amazing what they will take nowadays. We had our sidewalk lights swiped. I'm sure they can find something more productive to do. lol. Have a great week Linda!

Your description of this book reminds me of one I read and thoroughly enjoyed a couple of years ago: Heart in the Right Place, by Carolyn Jourdan. It is a memoir of a grown daughter that temporarily stepped out of a powerful Washington D.C. career to lend a hand to her father, a country doctor in rural Tennessee. It will make you laugh and cry.
